In wintertime, the sun feels elusive, in the sense that you can’t quite hold onto it as long as you’d like. Additionally, the bare trees always provide a striking shadow contrast cast on the snow. Here I enjoyed carefully integrating dots of highlights and shadow, overlapping and intermingling them on the snow, like glitter. This painting was inspired by a walk in Whitaker Woods, a recreational trail located in North Conway, NH, taken after a fresh snowfall.
